Dr. Oscar De la Torre holds a degree in Business Administration from La Salle University, Morelia campus. He has a Master’s in Economic and Financial Engineering from La Salle University, Mexico campus, and a PhD in International Business Sciences from Michoacan University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo. He has researched to obtain a PhD in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. His specialization includes financial econometrics, computational finance, and data science applied to promoting socially responsible investment, well-being, and food and energy sovereignty.

In related Financial Economics studies, he has completed a diploma in Financial Risk Analysis and Stochastic Economics at Michoacan University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo, where Professor Francisco Venegas taught him. Additionally, he has completed the “Econometric Estimation of Frontier Functions and Economic Efficiency” diploma taught by Professor William Greene at the Center for Fiscal Studies of the Complutense University of Madrid and the “Advanced Risk and Portfolio Management Bootcamp,” taught by Professor Attilio Meucci at the Courant Institute of Applied Mathematics, New York University.

Professional Experience
Dr. De la Torre has worked in the financial sector with institutions such as Vector Casa de Bolsa, the financial markets division of FIRA-Banco de México, the corporate foreign exchange and derivative division of Scotia Capital, and as Technical Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Administration of the Government of Michoacán. He was also a founding partner of an independent investment advisory firm. He is a full-time professor and researcher at the Faculty of Accounting and Administrative Sciences (FCCA) of Michoacan University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH). He coordinates the PhD program in Development and Sustainability, is a core member of the PhD program in Administration at FCCA, and is a founding committee member of the Bachelor’s program in Actuarial Science and Data Science at UMSNH.

He has published 53 research articles in high-impact scientific journals and eight chapters in research books.

From 2015 to 2023, Dr. De la Torre edited the Journal of Research in Accounting and Administrative Sciences and was a guest editor for several special issues of Mathematics and Agriculture.

He is a full-time professor and researcher at the Faculty of Accounting and Administrative Sciences of Michoacan University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo.
